About

An engineering team from smart city and digital twin projects in Slovakia, working on federated NGSI-LD digital twins with the city, the region and the university that tested them.

Who we are

joinedcontext is a small engineering team that has spent years inside smart city and digital twin projects, on the side that has to make the pieces fit. We have run context brokers in production and written the adapters nobody puts in a budget. We have also sat in the review meeting where it turns out that two systems model the same street differently, and that there are four weeks left.

The company came out of that. Somebody should own the joining layer and treat it as a product, instead of improvising it at the end of every project.

Where the platform comes from

The platform we deliver is the one we tested. Together with Matej Bel University we deployed it for the City of Banská Bystrica, the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region and the university itself, each on its own cluster with its own credentials, and measured what federation, contracts and policy enforcement cost over a real network. The architecture, the measurements and the failures we found are written up in a research paper, and the deployment is open source. When we say a partner only sees what your policy allows, we mean we ran the test with a partner who asked for more.

How we work

Open standards first

NGSI-LD, the Dataspace Protocol, OGC and the shared Smart Data Models. When a requirement cannot be met with them, we say so and write down what the alternative costs you.

Open source

The components we deploy are open source, and so is what we contribute back. No licence of ours ever locks you in.

Your infrastructure, your data

Everything runs on your cluster or in an EU region you choose. We do not resell your data and we have no reason to keep a copy of it.

Documented delivery

Models, deployment and runbooks ship with the project, in a state another team can pick up without calling us. What does not work yet is written down next to what does.

Where we are

We work from Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, with clients and consortium partners across the EU. Meetings happen in English, Slovak, Czech and German.
